About PonderBrain

PonderBrain is a resource for those seeking information about science, wellness, authenticity, and technology.

The Intersection of Curiosity and Practicality

The site focuses on topics such as scientific reasoning, ethics, meditation, cognitive performance, and the science of everyday mental function—translated into language that is accessible without sacrificing accuracy. The goal is simple: to bridge the gap between complex research and real-world understanding.

Content published on PonderBrain is built around careful interpretation of scientific literature, with an emphasis on clarity, usefulness, and intellectual honesty. Rather than oversimplifying or relying on trends, the aim is to present ideas in a way that helps readers think more clearly about how the brain works and how it can be supported. Here, you won’t be pandered to with “dopamine detoxes” and “effortless brainwave entrainment”. Ponderbrain focuses on what’s real, weird, and actually useful.

In addition to publishing articles, PonderBrain reflects ongoing work in science communication, research interpretation, and applied neuroscience. Our author, Jordan Kiefer O’Sullivan, welcomes inquiries related to writing, research support, or related projects. You’re welcome to get in touch through the contact page.

About the Author & Creator: Jordan Kiefer O’Sullivan

Scientist | Writer | Communicator | Researcher

Jordan Kiefer O’Sullivan, B.S., M.B.S., is a neuroscience writer, researcher, meditation educator, and applied EEG consultant focused on the intersection of brain science, consciousness, wellness, and scientific integrity.

Originally raised in Kildare, Ireland, Jordan moved to the United States as a teenager, where an early fascination with biology, thought, meditation, and spirituality developed into a lifelong pursuit of understanding the brain. At Dominican University of California, he created his own neuroscience-focused Bachelor of Science program by combining biology, chemistry, and psychology into an honors degree pathway. His undergraduate research focused on glioblastoma care and the development of more targeted therapeutic compounds.

Jordan later earned a Master’s in Biomedical Sciences with a focus in neuroscience from Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. His graduate work centered on Parkinson’s disease, oxidative stress, and novel compounds with potential neuroprotective effects. During this period, he also encountered one of the defining experiences of his scientific life: direct pressure to compromise the integrity of research data. He refused. That experience sharpened a conviction that now runs through all of his work—science is only useful when it remains honest.

After graduate school, Jordan moved to Santa Monica and entered the applied neurotechnology and wellness space. As Director of Operations at a neuro-wellness clinic, he helped develop neuroscience-based meditation materials, worked directly with EEG systems, and studied brain activity during meditation, breathwork, virtual reality, brainwave entrainment, and altered states of consciousness. Using research-grade EEG equipment, he analyzed meditators across a range of practices and experience levels, building a practical bridge between laboratory neuroscience and real-world contemplative training.

Since then, Jordan has worked independently as a consultant, writer, researcher, and meditation educator. His work has included EEG analysis, meditation course development, lucid dreaming and flow-state education, NIH grant writing support, neurotechnology writing, and research interpretation for individuals and organizations exploring the science of consciousness and mental performance.

PonderBrain reflects that unusual path. It exists for readers who are interested in the brain, meditation, wellness, and human experience—but who are tired of exaggerated claims, recycled myths, and scientific language used as decoration. The goal is not to make neuroscience sound mystical or to make wellness sound more certain than it is. The goal is to ask better questions, interpret evidence carefully, and make complex ideas useful without making them false.

Science is not finished. Neither are we. PonderBrain is built around that tension: curiosity with discipline, openness with skepticism, and wonder without surrendering honesty.
